This is a women empowerment scheme launched to enable all women from low-income backgrounds to have access to cleaner cooking energy for domestic usage. Under the scheme, the government of Andhra Pradesh will provide 3 free gas cylinders to all eligible women in the state. Launch of Deepam Scheme 2.0 2024

On November 1, 2024, Andhra Pradesh CM Shri Chandrababu Naidu launched the Deepam 2.0 Scheme for empowering women. The scheme has been launched during his visit to Edupuram in Srikakulam district. On the occasion of the scheme launch, he also handed over a gas cylinder to a beneficiary, Santhamma. The scheme will provide support for all women belonging to BPL and low-income families in the state. With this launch, now it is confirmed that eligible women beneficiaries would receive 3 cooking gas cylinders per year without paying any cost. Women citizens can confirm their eligibility and proceed with booking cylinders under Deepam Scheme 2.0.

Objectives of Deepam Scheme 2.0

This scheme is being run to provide social support to women citizens. Deepam 2.0 will enable women citizens from BPL families to switch over the usage of LPG gas for domestic cooking. Providing free gas cylinders will incentivise those women citizens who use conventional fuels for cooking. Conventional fuels cause several side effects, including pollution and harm to eyes and skin. With the help of the free gas cylinder scheme, women beneficiaries need not worry about their health and undertake cooking with ease. The scheme will promote usage of cleaner energy in the state and say no to conventional cooking fuels. Overall, it will improve the living conditions of women in the state.

Budget Allocation

The Andhra Pradesh state government has allocated sufficient budget for successful implementation of Deepam 2.0. A sum of INR 2684.75 crores has been sidelined to operationalise the scheme and distribute benefits to eligible citizens. The scheme will provide per-year financial support for at least three LPG gas cylinders. The Deepam 2.0 is the next version of the Original Deepam Scheme launched earlier by the same administration in Andhra Pradesh.

Deepam Scheme 2.0: Apply Online 2024

Andhra Pradesh government has started the application under Deepam Scheme 2.0 on 29th of October 2024. Eligible women can submit their application through the MeeSeva franchise. The process involves the submission of a duly filled-out application form along with a ration card and other necessary documents to the department. Then thereafter, the department would proceed with online entry and submission of the received application to the government. Once it is submitted online, the government will release the benefit directly into the bank account after the delivery of the LPG cylinder.

Application Process for Free Gas Cylinder Under Deepam Scheme 2.0:

  • Visit the nearest MeeSeva centre in your location.
  • Ask the staff to fill out the application form online for Deepam 2.0.
  • The staff will then login and enter your details.
  • Once your eligibility is verified, the online entry will be made.
  • In the online application form, your details will be filled in properly.
  • Required documents will be uploaded in the correct format.
  • Once all the above steps are done, the staff will proceed with the final submission of your application.

Post Application Process

Online submitted applications will undergo the following process for approval and distribution of free gas cylinders to beneficiaries.

  • All submitted online applications would be duly verified and approved at the Mandal Revenue Officer level.
  • Information submitted by the applicants will be matched with the government database and then approved by the competent official.

  • Once it is approved and updated at the Mandal Revenue Official, the applicant will receive a notification.
  • The notification would contain the text “Your request for Deepam gas connection has been accepted vide application number XXXX Transaction number XXXX Request is Approved.
  • After the above process, the concerned gas agency would verify the details and submit the application to the District Supply Officer.
  • At the District Supply Office, all formalities will be done, and the application will be forwarded again to the agency.
  • Now, the agency will update and proceed with the final action.
