Launch of the Bima Sakhi Yojana 2024

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Bima Sakhi Scheme on December 9, 2024, in Panipat, Haryana. On the occasion, the PM highlighted the participation of women in various socio-economic activities, including the income-generating activities in LIC. Women becoming part of LIC through the Bima Sakhi Yojana will earn a monthly income of INR 15,000. The scheme will cover and enrol more than 3,00,000 women aspirants in the upcoming years. To become an LIC agent, women citizens are required to have at least a 10th qualification and will have to undergo the training program of the LIC.

Aims and Objectives

The LIC’s Bima Sakhi Scheme aims to integrate women citizens as their policy agents for employment and income purposes. For this purpose, the LIC will impart the necessary training to candidates. The main objective of this scheme is to integrate Bima Sakhi in policy marketing and selling activities that will ultimately lead to an increase in employment and income of the institution and the participatory women. The Bima Sakhi Yojana will integrate at least one Bima Sakhi in every panchayat in India in the upcoming years, thus developing a vast chain of working women as LIC agents across the country. The scheme will help women citizens earn better employment and income opportunities, which will improve their socio-economic status.

  • During the training period, a financial stipend will also be granted to each trainee.
    • The stipend will be₹7,000 in the 1st year, ₹6,000 in the 2nd year, and ₹5,000 in the 3rd year of the training program.
  • LIC may appoint a Bima Sakhi as a regular Bima Agent based on the performance of each Bima Sakhi.

  • In the first year of the scheme, about 1 lakh women will be selected for the training.
  • In the future, the scheme coverage will extend to encompass 2 lakh more women in the program.

Training Details

  • Formal training will be imparted to each selected applicant. The training program will span a 3-year period during which trainees will receive a yearly stipend from the government. Those candidates who successfully complete the training will become full-fledged Bima Sakhi in the LIC.

  • The minimum age of the applicant should be 18 with a maximum age limit of 70 years.
  • The applicant should have passed at least 10th grade (matriculation) to become a Bima Sakhi.
