The UP Post Matric Schoalarship Scheme offers scholarship assistance for several higher education courses in recognised universities in the state. The post-matric scholarship of the Uttar Pradesh government offers tuition fees, hostel charges, mess fees and other non-refundable fees to eligible students from the General, OBC, ST and SC categories. Group I

Degree and Master Degree Courses, M. Fil.-Ph.D., Courses of all medical therapies, Technology, Engineering, Planning, Architecture, Design, Fashion Technology, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Allied Sciences, Business Finance, Management Administration, Computer Science, etc. C.P.L. Courses, Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Management, C.A., I.C.W.A., C.S., I.C.F.A., LL.M. , D. Lit., D.S.C., etc.

Group II

Graduate/Postgraduate level Degree Diploma, certificate course like Pharmacy, Nursing, LL.B., B.F.S., Para-Medical like Rehabilitation, Diagnosis, etc., Mass-Communication, Hotel Management, Interior Decoration, Nutrition and Dietetics, Commercial Art, Tourism Hospitality, Financial Services (e.g., Banking, Insurance, Taxation, etc.), in which minimum qualification is Intermediate or equivalent and postgraduate courses that are not included in Group 1 like M.A./M.Sc./M. Com./M. Ed./M. Pharma/B. Ed. Etc.

Group III

All graduate-level courses which are not included in Groups I and II like B.A., B. Sc. and B.Com./B.T.C., etc.

Group IV

All non-degree level courses where-in the minimum entrance qualification is High School like I.T.I. and three-year diploma courses (Polytechnic), etc.

Scholarship Benefits

The scholarship amounts under the UP Post Matric Scholarship Scheme differ for different categories of students. You can see the details below for each category of students separately.

General Category Students

For Group I courses: Reimbursement of the full tuition fee in the case of a recognised institution in which the fee is determined by the central or state authorities or Rs. 50,000 whichever is less and reimbursement of hostel charges is set at INR 13,500 per year for hostelers and INR 7,000 per year for day scholars.

For Group II: Reimbursement of the full tuition fee in the case of a recognised institution in which the fee is determined by the central or state authorities or INR 30,000 whichever is less whereas reimbursement of hostel charges is set at INR 9500 per year for hostelers and INR 6500 per year for day scholars.

For Group III: Reimbursement of the full tuition fee in the case of a recognised institution in which the fee is determined by the central or state authorities or Rs. 30,000 whichever is less, reimbursement of hostel charges is set at INR 6,000 per year for hostelers and INR 3000 per year for day scholars.

For Group IV: Reimbursement of full tuition fee in case of a recognised institution in which the fee is determined by the central or state authorities or INR 10,000 whichever is less, reimbursement of hostel charges at INR 4,000 per annum for hostelers and INR 2500 per annum for day scholars.

OBC Category Students

For Group I courses: Reimbursement of full tuition fees as determined by the concerned educational institution; reimbursement of hostel charges at INR 14,400 per annum for hostelers and INR 6,600 per annum for day scholars.

For Group II Courses: Reimbursement of full tuition fees as determined by the concerned educational institution; reimbursement of hostel charges at INR 9,840 per annum for hostelers and INR 6,360 per annum for day scholars.

For Group III Courses: Reimbursement of full tuition fees as determined by the concerned educational institution or Rs. 20,000 whichever is less; reimbursement of hostel charges at INR 6,840 per annum for hostelers and INR 3600 per annum for day scholars.

For Group IV Courses: Reimbursement of full tuition fees as determined by the concerned educational institution or Rs. 10,000 whichever is less; reimbursement of hostel charges at INR 4560 per annum for hostelers and INR 2760 per annum for day scholars.

SC/ST Category Students

For Group I Courses: Reimbursement of all fees, including tuition fees, fees paid by students, all non-refundable fees, and other fees paid by a student to the educational institution, reimbursement of full hostel charges as determined by the concerned institution.

For Group II Courses: Reimbursement of all fees, including tuition fees, fees paid by students, all non-refundable fees, and other fees paid by a student to the educational institution, reimbursement of full hostel charges as determined by the concerned institution.

For Group III Courses: Reimbursement of all fees, including tuition fees, fees paid by students, all non-refundable fees, and other fees paid by a student to the educational institution, reimbursement of full hostel charges as determined by the concerned institution.

Group IV Courses: Reimbursement of all fees, including the tuition fees, fees paid by students, all non-refundable fees, and other fees paid by a student to the educational institution, reimbursement of full hostel charges as determined by the concerned institution.

Note: A disabled student will receive maintenance and hostel allowances that are 10% more than the standard amount.

Eligibility Criteria

General Category Students

  • The student should be an original resident of the state of Uttar Pradesh.
  • The household income of the students from all sources should not be more than Rs. 2.50 lakh per annum (subject to changes from time to time by the government).
  • The students have secured at least 60% in the intermediate examination from any recognised institution of the state.
  • The students have obtained at least 55% in graduation from any recognised institution of the state.

OBC Students

  • The applicant should have original residency in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
  • The annual family income of the students should not be more than Rs. 2.00 lakh (subject to changes from time to time by the government).
  • Eligibility extends to all OBC students who fulfil the above two criteria and have secured admission in any recognised institution in Uttar Pradesh (Subject to availability of budget)

SC/ST Students

  • The applicant should be an original citizen of Uttar Pradesh.
  • The applicant should belong to either the Scheduled Caste category or the Scheduled Tribe category.
  • The household income of the applicant’s family should not be more than 2.50 lakh per annum from all sources.
  • Eligibility extends to all children of a parent or guardian who fulfil the citizenship and income criteria.

Ineligibility Conditions

  • The applicant’s family income should not cross the determined limit in any year of the course duration otherwise he or she should cease to receive the scholarship benefits for the remaining years of the course.
  • The students are required to satisfy the attendance criteria of at least 75% during the course in each year.
  • It will be mandatory for a student to pass the annual examination of the said course, in case of backlog no scholarship will be provided for the same.
  • Students receiving allowances or fellowships in postgraduate courses will not be eligible for the scholarship under the UP Post Matric Scholarship Scheme.
  • The students taking admission in one of the following courses will not be eligible for the scholarship benefits.
    • Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Course
    • Private Pilot License Course
    • Trainingship Duffrin (now Rejandra) course
    • Courses of Military College, Dehradun, Uttarakhand
    • Courses of All India and state-level pre-examination training centers
    • Correspondence courses and distance and continuing education courses
    • Courses offered by private educational institution which are not certified by a university/affiliating body, or competent department
    • Courses offered by other state institutions that are not controlled and affiliated under the government of Uttar Pradesh.

Academic Year

  • For 11th and 12th: April 1 to March 31.
  • For higher education including graduation and postgraduation: July 1 to June 30.

  • Students should visit the official scholarship portal of the Uttar Pradesh Government at https://scholarship.up.gov.in/
  • Click the above link and you will reach the home screen of the official scholarship portal of Uttar Pradesh.
  • On the home page navigate to the Student option and then click on the Registration option to proceed further.

  • Take a printout of the application and submit the same with the required documents to your educational institution for verification.

  • The department will then forward the same to the NIC for verification from the government database.
  • On successful verification at the NIC level the District Approval Committee will finally decide on your application.
  • After receiving approval from the District Approval Committee the NIC will generate a demand and the amount of scholarship will be credited to your bank account using the Public Financial Management System (PFMS).
